Video game developer Epic Games and digital fashion company CLO Virtual Fashion have announced a cross-investment deal. The partnership indicates Epic’s vested interest in virtual fashion as a key element of its expanding metaverse aspirations.
Renowned for its innovative tools, CLO Virtual Fashion offers a range of resources, including fashion design software that integrates seamlessly with Epic’s Unreal Engine. They also provide a marketplace for buying and selling garment designs. Epic Games has been vigorously advocating for the broader use of its Unreal Engine beyond the gaming realm.
This collaboration with CLO Virtual Fashion suggests that Epic is urging industries like fashion to leverage the power of Unreal Engine for their digital transformation.
Epic Games’ CTO, Kim Libreri, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Bringing high-quality digital fashion into real-time virtual worlds is complex and can be a creative barrier for digital fashion creators. It is exciting to see how CLO Virtual Fashion’s solutions work with Unreal Engine to help designers across industries make life-like digital fashion garments.”
Epic Games isn’t the only entity acknowledging the immense potential of virtual fashion. DressX, a pioneer in the digital fashion sphere, recently unveiled its new line of apparel on Roblox. Furthermore, this year saw the successful execution of the second-ever Metaverse Fashion Week, hosted in the virtual world of Decentraland.
A fortnight ago, Facebook’s Meta made a significant announcement. It declared that its customizable avatars will now have the option to sport complete ensembles from Puma. This supplements the existing range of wardrobe options from leading fashion houses such as DressX, Balenciaga, Prada, and Thom Browne.
Despite the seeming deceleration in metaverse enthusiasm, unwavering proponents like Epic Games remain committed. They are expected to continue investing in virtual fashion.
